Oneing: Unity and Diversity
DETAILS
Established in 2013, ONEING is the biannual journal of the Center for Action and Contemplation. Renowned for its diverse and deep exploration of mysticism and culture, ONEING is grounded in Richard Rohr’s teachings and wisdom lineage. Each issue features a themed collection of thoughtfully curated essays and critical perspectives from spiritual teachers, activists, modern mystics, and prophets of all religions.
In his introduction to this issue of Oneing, Richard Rohr writes that "God has to be otherness—diversity, if you will—but God also has to be diversity overcome and resolved—initially inside of the Deity Itself, then in all those who live inside of God, who are imprinted, marked, and “turned into the image that they reflect."
The articles and poems in this issue of Oneing give us a glimpse of what can happen if we pay attention and are fully present to one another, and the transformation we can experience by recognizing that diversity is not our enemy, but our teacher; not something to disdain, but to embrace. As Garridon Grady states in “Evolving in Diversity,” “being confident that I’m a good person doesn’t also mean that I don’t have any work to do.” Our work consists in being fully aware of and present to our brothers and sisters and all of creation that exists in unity “inside of God.”
This issue features contributions from Richard Rohr, Joan Brown, Jonathon Stalls, Micky ScottBey Jones, John Dear, Polly Baca, Gideon Tsang, Naomi Shihab Nye, Carlos Navarro, Gigi Ross, Shirin McArthur, Garridon Grady, Pablo Neruda, Michelle A. Scheidt, David M. Cook, Lavera Crawley, Avideh Shashaani, and Lee Staman.
