Oneing: The Universal Christ (PDF Download)
DETAILS
Established in 2013, ONEING is the biannual journal of the Center for Action and Contemplation. Renowned for its diverse and deep exploration of mysticism and culture, ONEING is grounded in Richard Rohr’s teachings and wisdom lineage. Each issue features a themed collection of thoughtfully curated essays and critical perspectives from spiritual teachers, activists, modern mystics, and prophets of all religions.
This edition of Oneing honors the recent release of Richard Rohr's new book, The Universal Christ. In his introduction to the edition, Richard Rohr writes that, while most of us were presented with "the historical Jesus" (largely in the synoptic Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke), we do not fully realize that we have already been presented with a ubiquitous Christ in Paul’s letters (which preceded all the Gospels) and a rather archetypal and larger-than-life Christ in the later Gospel of John and the Book of Revelation. “Jesus, for John, has become the universal Greek Logos (see John 1:1), the divine principle of Spirit acting as matter — not a mere human person so much as a high-level statement about the shape of Reality."
Contributors to this edition, many of whom are Richard’s peers, were invited to participate because of their own deep understanding of and writings on the Universal or Cosmic Christ. These authors offer us an inclusive, magnanimous vision of the Universal Christ.
This issue features contributions from Richard Rohr, Mary Olivery, John Dominic Crossan, Brie Stoner, Ilia Delio, Cynthia Bourgeault, Matthew Fox, Sallie McFague, Michael Dowd, Beverly Lanzetta, Avideh Shashaani, and Jamie Manson.
