DETAILS

Established in 2013, ONEING is the biannual journal of the Center for Action and Contemplation. Renowned for its diverse and deep exploration of mysticism and culture, ONEING is grounded in Richard Rohr’s teachings and wisdom lineage. Each issue features a themed collection of thoughtfully curated essays and critical perspectives from spiritual teachers, activists, modern mystics, and prophets of all religions.

To understand the prophet, we need to start by moving beyond the common image of the prophet as an angry foreteller who threatens people and promises wrath and punishment. That cultural image is so longstanding that until we move on from it, we won’t be able to discover the prophet as a truth speaker who has walked a journey to where truth has led them. Center for Action and Contemplation founder Fr. Richard Rohr describes the prophetic path as a three-part journey:

  • Anger at the world's injustice.

  • Grief and lamentation at suffering.

  • Eventually leading to restorative justice and love.

Oneing: The Path of the Prophet explores these three "movements" from anger to grief and to love and restorative justice. Explore the prophetic journey through the wisdom of today’s most thought-provoking contemplative thinkers and discover how the prophets point to a path by which the pain of our lives and the world is refined into redeeming love.

This issue features contributions from Richard Rohr, Nahum Ward-Lev, Barbara Holmes, William Barber II with Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove, Brian McLaren, Cassidy Hall, Drew Jackson, Mirabai Starr, Pixie Lighthorse, Jacqueline Lewis, Elaine Enns, Heather Lanier, and Lee Staman.
