In this short talk, Richard Rohr offers an overview of his book, Eager to Love: The Alternative Way of Francis of Assisi. He introduces us to the humble and joyful man who was more radical prophet than garden icon. Francis’ words and lifestyle imitate Jesus’ simplicity, compassion, inclusivity, and embodied love. The essential Gospel teaching, “remain in love,” was Francis’ core motivation and pursuit, and he knew that could best be done by staying close to the edge and the supposed bottom of society, which was of course not the bottom at all.

Richard challenges us with important questions: What does “an alternative orthodoxy” look like? Are you eager to love? If so, what are you waiting for?
